How to use inspiration from everywhere!

How to use inspiration from everywhere!

This post will show you my way of creating one piece of flower artwork that I can use to inspire me in other parts of my life for example in this case, a makeup look! If you are someone who really wants to start taking charge of your life and wants to become more creative and self-expressive, then here are some tips and tricks that have really helped me! For the people who would love to learn how to paint and to become more colourful in your choices, I will show you my process for creating a painting as well!

The most important thing to remember is that inspiration can come from literally anything! For example, the leaves on the trees, the shape of a building… I have even been inspired by a shadow on the ground before! Its so easy to find inspiration if you’re actively looking to be inspired, I like to think of the world as a sharing of energies and when you are open receiving the energy, best believe you’re going to be in an abundance of it! The world is a really beautiful place and once we are open to receiving the flow of creative energy, it will come!

This is where I want to start our post. I am going to take you through my whole process of creating a painting and then using that painting to inspire my makeup routine.

Starting off with the sketch!

I am the type of person who needs a little scaffolding, I like to plan out where things should go and how they should look etc so for me sketching a drawing out is super important. However, some people are just amazing at replicating what’s in their heads onto the page and they won’t need to sketch their ideas out first and that is the beauty of humans!

So back to the sketch; I started out by drawing some larger flowers in the corner of the page and then when I was happy with the placement I decided to draw another larger flower on the opposite corner of the page. After that I wanted more variety in the flowers, so I drew a tulip in the gap between the flowers. And then I decided to draw some cute 5 petal flowers in the opposite corner of the tulip. Once the flowers were all drawn and I was happy with their positions, I decided to add some leaves!

Time for the leaves!

After the drawing was completed, I wanted to paint the leaves in first because I wanted to get a feel for the colour scheme, and I also wanted to see how it looked in colour. So I used my watercolour paints in 3 different shades of green to paint the different leaf variations in the drawing.

Flower Power!

Now its flower time! I wanted to use a more blended technique for these flowers, so I started out with the purple and blue flowers. To do those, I just went in with a purple and only painted the outer sections of the petals and then I went in with a pink to fill out the rest of the petals. And finally I added a little blue in the centre.

The next flower is the larger pink and red one which I did a similar thing with the purple flowers; I used red in the very outer corners of the petals and blended in a pink to add a softness. After that I added a yellow and chartreuse to the centre as well as some orange to blend the colours better. Next up are the tulip and the blue flowers which I just painted orange and blue and yellow for the centres of the 5 petal flowers.

Background is key!

The background colour gave a little trouble as I couldn’t figure out what colours I wanted but, in the end, I realised it had to be pink because that’s my favourite colour! I just love how the pink works with all the colours and it’s so cohesive!

Extra Touches!

Now in my watercolour palette I have a silver and a gold, so I decided to use both and add a little texture to the painting! I started out by adding a silver outline to the purple flowers and its leaves as well as the leaves for the blue flowers and then I used the gold to outline the pink and red flower as well as the tulip and the centres of the little blue flowers! After that I wanted more texture in the background, so I alternated putting little dots of gold and silver to tie it all together and add some cohesion!

Life Imitates Art!

This is where I imitated my artwork and decided to create a floral makeup look that was inspired by my painting! So as you can see, I used the green liner as a stem for the tulips on the side. I also recreated the purple flowers on the inner and outer lid as well as my little blue flowers in the centre! I also added their leaves for more texture and then to finish it all off I added the pink on the lower lash line and little pink dots to bring in the background colour!
